# Install and connect

> Install the Chrome extension and link it to your LivingContext organization.

The extension runs in Google Chrome (version 118 or later) and connects to your organization with a single click — there are no keys to copy or paste.

## Install the extension

Install LivingContext from the Chrome Web Store. If your organization distributes the extension directly, you may instead receive a zip file with install instructions from your admin.

Once installed, pin the extension to your toolbar so the side panel is always one click away.

## Connect to your organization

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the extension">
    Click the LivingContext icon to open the side panel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Connect extension">
    This opens your organization's connect page at `<your-org>.livingcontext.ai/connect-extension`. Sign in if you aren't already.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Authorize">
    Click **Authorize extension**. An organization-scoped key is handed directly to the extension in the background — it is never displayed, and there is nothing to copy.
  </Step>
</Steps>

That's it. The side panel now shows your organization, and you're ready to [record your first capture](/capture/recording).

<Note>
  The key is scoped to your membership. If you leave the organization, the extension's key stops working automatically.
</Note>

## First-run onboarding

The first time you open the extension, a short wizard walks you through setup:

| Step          | What it covers                                                                  |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Welcome | A quick tour of capture, Guide Me, and Ask docs |
| AI setup | Confirms the AI features used when composing guides |
| Smart blur | Choose which sensitive-data categories are blurred before screenshots are taken |
| Pin extension | Reminds you to pin LivingContext to the Chrome toolbar |

You can revisit any of these choices later in the extension's settings. Smart blur in particular is worth reviewing — see [Privacy and redaction](/capture/privacy-and-redaction).

## Managing extension keys

The one-click connect flow mints a key for you behind the scenes. **Settings → Browser extension** is the manual alternative and the management surface:

* **Create** a named key (optionally with an expiry) and paste it into the extension yourself — useful for locked-down environments.
* **Revoke** any key at any time — the extension it belongs to disconnects immediately.

Revoking a key does not affect anything already published; it only stops future connections from that extension.

## Troubleshooting

* **The connect page says I'm not signed in** — sign in to your organization at `<your-org>.livingcontext.ai` first, then click **Connect extension** again.
* **The extension shows as disconnected** — your key may have been revoked, or you may have left the organization. Reconnect from the side panel.
* **Nothing happens when I click Authorize** — make sure the extension is installed and enabled in Chrome, then reload the connect page.
