Text-based diagrams
Fenced code blocks render as live diagrams. Write the diagram as text; readers see the picture.Mermaid
Flowcharts, sequence diagrams, state machines, ER diagrams — the widely used ```mermaid syntax.
D2
A modern declarative diagram language with clean automatic layout — ```d2 blocks.
Canvas-based diagrams
For free-form drawing, LivingContext supports two canvas editors.draw.io
draw.io diagrams embed in a page as editable single-file SVG — one file that is both the rendered image and the editable source. Double-click to open the embedded editor, make your change, and save; there is no separate export step and no source file to lose track of.Excalidraw
Excalidraw gives you a hand-drawn sketch style in two forms:- Inline blocks — a sketch embedded inside a doc page.
- Full-canvas files — standalone diagram files that live in the file tree like any other page and open as a full canvas. Use these for large architecture diagrams that deserve their own page.
Inserting a diagram
Inside the editor, type/ to open the slash menu and pick from the Advanced blocks group: Excalidraw, draw.io diagram, Mermaid diagram, or D2 diagram. To create a standalone canvas instead, use Add new in the docs sidebar and switch the New document dialog to its Diagram tab — it offers a blank canvas or Salesforce-branded starter scenes, saved as a draw.io (.drawio.svg) or Excalidraw file.
Standalone diagram files are live-editable like any doc: editors get the canvas with a floating Save button that commits straight to the branch, and leaving with unsaved work raises an Unsaved changes guard (Keep editing / Discard / Save and leave). A Fullscreen toggle on the canvas gives you the whole screen while you work.
Salesforce icon library
The Excalidraw canvas ships with a bundled Salesforce icon library: 1,780 SLDS icons in real brand colors — standard objects, custom objects, actions, utilities. Drag them onto the canvas to build org diagrams that look like Salesforce, not like generic boxes. The icon library loads automatically in every Excalidraw canvas. There is nothing to install or import.
Where diagrams render
Diagrams are first-class everywhere docs appear:
This matters most during review: when an agent proposes a diagram update, you judge the picture, not the syntax.
